Kortne was pretty and popular girl who liked to party and had a real bold streak in her. At 21 she lived in her own apartment and was a bit of a hippy, with her parents saying that she wore just about everything tie-dye.
Palmyra, Pennsylvania, on July 28,and Stouffer was having a party at her apartment with her boyfriend Bradley and some friends. He was on probation for DUI, so the police took him back to the station with them. This infuriated Kortne but she and her friends decided to take the party out to a bar in the town of Harrisburg. However, things did not go well there either and she ended up in a huge argument with a couple at the bar, they finished up screaming at each other and she was throw out.
Kortne then headed back to her apartment with her friend Cody Pruett, who wanted to make sure she gets home safe. When they got back to the apartment Kortne confronted her neighbors and the police came out again, this time she almost came to blows with her neighbor Todd and police forced them both to go back inside to their respective homes.
Within the hour the police were called back out but this time all is quiet when they arrive, they leave without knocking any doors. Cody wakes up the next morning at 7. The police treated the case as a homicide from the start due to the very unusual circumstances and the many people Kortne had annoyed on the night she disappeared.
Ballester told the police that two people had entereed the apartment looking or drugs and money, then killed Kortne and dumped her body in a nearby lake. Pennsylvania State Police investigated this tip and even used sonar to search the lake, but no evidence of a body or even a crime were found.
Some suspicion fell on Cody but he offered up his DNA and even took a polygraph test, so police ruled him out. After that the case went pretty cold until this episode of Disappeared aired last year. Following the episode there was some of activity, but nothing concrete turned up and the case remains open. It is just beyond frustrating. Opinion Recaps Reviews Interviews Explainers. Contrary to what many people think, bookstores do not make a large profit off of book sales. College bookstores receive their books directly from publishers who determine the amount they charge.
Field Trust and the North Dakota Challenge Fund for helping keep the books purchased in our bookstore without the financial burden on the students. Such cost savings will help Stauffer realize his dream of majoring in agriculture when he transfers to NDSU after completing his general requirements at WSC. It is gratifying for one particular WSC Foundation board member to see Stauffer pursuing his career in agriculture.
Giving the students these scholarships so they can further their education right here in Williston can only lead to good things for the whole community down the road. The WCG Scholarship will continue as long as revenue and earnings continue. Now, thanks to the North Dakota Challenge Fund, personal contributions will go even further. The party is over, and the beautiful young girl who lived here is missing. Kortne was a free spirit who loved the clothes, music and attitude of the s. But did all that peace and love lead down a dark road? For Kortne, it all started here in Palmyra, Pennsylvania, a perfect blend of country living and city life. The pretty green-eyed blonde grew up loving the outdoors and all it had to offer.
She's exuberant, full of giddy energy and love. But even Kortne's parents Scott and Wendy admit their beautiful, loving daughter is also bold. Now they worry she may have been too bold for her own good. Sometimes she couldn't contain it or couldn't control it and she irritated some people. At 21, when this fresh-faced beauty leaves the safety of her parents' nest, that boundless energy blooms.
She was going to the bars, she was partying, she had her own apartment," said Wendy. She wore tie-dye everything. Saturday, July 28,was supposed to be one long party for Kortne, her boyfriend Bradley and other guests at their apartment. But before the night can even get started, neighbors call the cops and cut the party short. Bradley is caught drinking, and that's a big problem.
He was on probation for a DUI, so cops haul him off to jail. She and her friends decide to move the party down the road to the nearby town of Harrisburg. But more alcohol isn't the cure for Kortne's fury.
She gets into a screaming match with another guy and his girlfriend at the bar. Kortne gets kicked out of the bar, and now she's really fuming. She heads back to her apartment with an old friend, Cody Pruett.
Cody's following Kortne to make sure she gets home safe. Less than an hour later, cops are called again. But this time, to their surprise, officers find nothing but peace and quiet. They know there's already a situation. But Kortne would never receive that text.
Sometime in the previous three hours, she went missing. What Kortne's mom finds is disturbing, not because anything is wrong -- but because everything is exactly where it should be. Except Kortne. If she went anywhere in her car, she took the dog with her, and her car was sitting in the driveway with the windows down.
Kortne made some enemies that night. And Scott Stouffer went there in a cold drizzle Wednesday to meet a stranger who claims she knows what happened to his daughter, Kortne, who disappeared nearly two years ago and is presumed dead.
After listening to Amanda Ballester for nearly three hours, Stouffer was convinced: Police must search that lake, which is about 12 miles away from the place she disappeared after an evening partying with friends. But if there is even a slight chance that it is, every effort should be made to find out, Stouffer said. Like the district attorney, Stouffer has heard dozens of stories on the whereabouts of his daughter during the 20 months she has been missing. But this one is different, said Stouffer, whose office happens to be adjacent to the lake.
The explanation includes a motive that Stouffer believes is plausible, an accurate timeline and people who he said had been with his daughter the evening she disappeared. Ballester also knew details that Stouffer believes were only known to family and investigators. This girl made the past 20 months seem like two days ago. Kortne Stouffer disappeared from her apartment in the block of West Main Street in Palmyra during the early hours of July 29, A search ensued in the following weeks and months.
And her disappearance has made national headlines. Prior to leaving, her boyfriend, Brad Herr, was arrested at the apartment they shared, by a probation officer.Motorcyclist run over killed in redmond crash
Herr was on house arrest and probation for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs while underage, according to published accounts. Herr spent about a week behind bars in Lebanon County, according to court records. And Kortne blamed her neighbors for the arrest, thinking they had called the cops to complain about the party, Stouffer said.
And police have been unwilling to say who called them. When Kortne came home from Harrisburg later that night, she saw her neighbors as she climbed the steps to her second-floor apartment. She started screaming at them, thinking her boyfriend would face a long jail sentence because of the call she believed they had made, Stouffer said. Kortne continued yelling at them, until finally, the neighbors did call the cops, who visited the apartment for a second time.
They got there about an hour after Kortne came home from the bar, Stouffer said. The police knocked, but there was no answer. Instead of going into the apartment, they left, Stouffer said. Arnold confirmed that Ballester contacted his office several times. She said her story never changed, and that the district attorney and his investigators never took her seriously.
There were varied accounts of what happened. Arnold said the number of calls his office receives regarding the Stouffer case has waned. He said that his office is no closer to finding Kortne than it was at the start of the investigation. A recent theory suggested by a private investigator in Florida — who said an unknown serial killer traveling the country likely abducted Kortne because she fits the profile — is baseless, Arnold said.
Arnold would not disclose specific areas his office searched, but he said at least one body of water has been investigated. He specializes in emergency medicine.
